Josefinum

The Josefinum Hospital in Augsburg commissioned the development of a design concept for four walls in the children's ward. In this project it was important to develop a visual language that would appeal to children under 10, teenagers and hospital staff. Children often encounter many things in hospitals that they do not understand and that can frighten them. My concept is to transform these images into something tangible that children associate with  positive emotions.
Balloons can be created from blood cells, a dandelion from viruses, a school of fish from tablets, and a constellation from chemical compounds. To ensure a straightforward implementation, I have utilized simple forms in these designs. Additionally, the motifs are grouped based on available space, allowing for flexible adaptation to doors and other architectural components.
A system for rooms and signs can also be introduced in line with the various subject areas, as children find it easier to remember symbols than numbers.
